Country music legend and A Star Is Born actor Kris Kristofferson has died at the age of 88.
The singer-songwriter died peacefully Saturday at his home in Maui, Hawaii, family spokeswoman Ebie McFarland said.
No cause of death was given.
The Texas native was a singer himself, but many of his songs were best known for being performed by others, including Ray Price’s For the Good Times and Janis Joplin’s Me And Bobby McGee.
Fellow American country singer Willie Nelson said there was “no better songwriter alive” when speaking about Kristofferson at a 2009 awards ceremony.
“Everything he writes is a standard and we’re all going to have to live with that,” Nelson said.

As an actor, he won the Golden Globe Award for Best Actor in 1976 after his performance in the romantic drama A Star Is Born alongside Barbra Streisand.
He also appeared alongside Ellen Burstyn in Martin Scorsese’s 1974 film Alice Doesn’t Live Here Anymore.
