A stroke of madness, more than 100 km from the finish. Madness for everyone, except for Tadej Pogacar who attacked at this precise moment of the race to win the rainbow jersey of road cycling world champion, this Sunday, September 29, 2024, in Zurich ( Swiss).

On the Blues side, no podium, nor even a place of honor. The team coached by Thomas Voeckler was unlucky with the fall and abandonment of its leader Julian Alaphilippe.

Pavel Sivakov was in the leading group for a moment, then took the wheel of Tadej Pogacar when the Slovenian escaped, but he finished very far behind.

A senseless attack

Three men emerged as big favorites: Tadej Pogacar, Remco Evenepoel and Mathieu Van der Poel. The three were in the peloton 100 km from the finish, chasing a group that had broken away in the morning.

Tadej Pogacar’s teammates were in trouble, the Slovenian didn’t care. He attacks. Nobody follows. At 100 points from the line, everyone says that it won’t go to the end.

He catches up with the breakaway. Then he breaks away with the Frenchman Pavel Sivakov, the only one who can follow him.

Finally, the insane poker move of the winner of the last Tour de works. We thought for a moment that the last lap of the circuit would be fatal for the Slovenian, but he remained lucid and won another very prestigious victory. For the next twelve months, he will wear the world champion’s rainbow tunic.
