'I almost need a miracle,' says Kyrgios about being at the Australian Open

Beaten by Frenchman Mpetshi Perricard in the first round of the Brisbane tournament, Nick Kyrgios spoke at a press conference about his doubts before the Australian Open.

It's been almost two years since Nick Kyrgios was last seen on a court. This Monday, the Australian lost to Frenchman Mpetshi Perricard, in three sets, in the first round of the Brisbane tournament. Despite the defeat, Kyrgios, who is no longer ranked in the ATP, wanted to remember the positive: “Honestly, for me it was a great match, especially considering I hadn't played in 18 monthsreacted the person concerned. Finding myself in a position to win was exciting,” he said, in comments reported by Eurosport .

The 29-year-old also spoke about his wrist operation which he underwent 18 months ago: ““No tennis player has ever had this operation and tried to come back to play again.”

A presence at the Australian Open not assured

Touched and worn, Nick Kyrgios cast doubt on his presence at the Australian Open, a Grand Slam so important to him: “I was really excited for Australia. After today, I tell myself that if I can play, I will play (…) I almost need a miracle, and for the stars to align so that my wrist fits in a Grand Slam (.. .) Today, if it had been a Grand Slam, we would perhaps still be on the court, and I don't know how I would have recovered the next day or the day after that.
