Crunchyroll, Aniplex, Sony Music and PlayStation Productions announce they are working on an animated series based on Ghost of Tsushima! The announcement was made during Sony’s CES 2025 conference. The series will premiere exclusively on Crunchyroll in 2027.
Takanobu Mizuno (Star Wars: Visions: The Duel) will direct the animation at Kamikaze Douga studio, with Gen Urobuchi writing the storyline. The production will be done in collaboration with Aniplex, while Sony Music will take care of the soundtrack. Crew and cast members will be revealed later.
The original Ghost of Tsushima game, released in July 2020 on PlayStation 4, was later ported to PS5 in 2021 and PC in 2024. Ghost of Tsushima: Legends arrived in October 2020. A sequel, titled Ghost of Yōteiis planned for 2025.
Game summary
The year is 1274. Samurai warriors are the legendary defenders of Japan, until the fearsome Mongol Empire invades the island of Tsushima. Thus sowing chaos and conquering the local population. As one of the last surviving samurai, you rise from the ashes to fight. But honorable tactics will not lead you to victory. You must go beyond your samurai traditions. And forge a new way of fighting – the way of the ghost – while waging an unconventional war for Japan’s freedom.
