Glass, metal, wood, plastic… Everyone has their preference regarding the material of kitchen utensils. But apart from the aesthetic or practical aspect, did you know that the choice of the material of your utensils can have a real impact on your health. One of them should also be banned according to Jimmy Mohamed.
“If you have this kind of spatula at home it goes straight into the trash.” Jimmy Mohamed’s message is clear. It is in a video published on his social networks that the doctor warns about a very specific type of utensils: those made of plastic. It is true that we all have an old plastic spatula in our kitchen with “the burnt end” and worn out from using it. The problem ? This means that this plastic, which has melted, “has found its way into our food and this is how we ingest plastic day after day”explains the specialist.
However, this plastic is harmful to the health of consumers since it also contains endocrine disruptors, “substances that disrupt the hormonal functioning of the entire body”. Thus, as Jimmy Mohammed points out, “These endocrine disruptors increase the risk of urogenital malformations in little boys, early puberty in little girls, and homogenous cancers such as breast or prostate cancer.”
That’s not all since these disruptors also promote the appearance of numerous diseases such as type 2 diabetes and obesity.
According to Jimmy Mohamed, it’s simple: “Everything that is plastic in the kitchen must be thrown away.” In fact, it is best to replace them with utensils made from other materials. Furthermore, he advises choosing wooden spatulas, airtight glass boxes, but above all never plastic because “When you put them in the microwave, the plastic heats up and ends up in the food.”
The same goes for bottles: “Personally I don’t buy plastic bottles. I take tap water which I put in a carafe” in glass of course. Finally, the doctor also recommends applying these same rules to infant bottles: “Throw away the plastic ones, if it breaks we’ll buy another one, it’s not a big deal”. So you will have understood, plastic should be banned from your kitchen.
