Three iPhones soon to be penalized and kicked out of WhatsApp
If we refer to this official information, we learn that the Monday May 5, 2025the instant messaging application WhatsApp will become forever unusable on these three Apple smartphones:
- iPhone 5s (2013)
- iPhone 6 (2014)
- iPhone 6 Plus (2014)
This is due to the rise in WhatsApp’s technical requirements as it modernizes its platform.
Only Apple phones capable of running the iOS mobile operating system at least version 15.1 will be preserved. However, the three condemned models are limited to iOS 12.5.7 at best.
The beginnings of inevitable obsolescence
“As of May 5, 2025, only iOS version 15.1 and later will be supported,” WhatsApp specifies on this page.
In short, the inability to update the operating system is slowly but surely dragging these devices towards obsolescence. This is why WhatsApp is no longer available on the iPhone 5c, iPhone 5, iPhone 4s, iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS, iPhone 3G, the original iPhone.
