A new era is dawning for Samsung’s virtual assistant. According to a recent report from ETNews, the South Korean giant plans to roll out a significantly improved version of Bixby globally with the launch of its Galaxy S25 series.
This new version of Bixby, currently only available in China on the Galaxy W25 and W25 Flip, is a major evolution compared to its predecessor. The assistant now relies on a custom language model (LLM), which positions it as a direct competitor to Google Gemini and ChatGPT.
Samsung’s artificial intelligence combines technologies from the Gauss model, developed in-house, with Google Gemini for international markets. In China, the assistant uses an adapted version integrating a local LLM. This new architecture allows Bixby to better understand natural language and perform more complex tasks.
What features for Bixby AI?
Among the new features, the assistant will be able to create PDF documents, answer elaborate questions and serve as a guide to discover the smartphone’s features. These improvements will integrate with One UI 7, Samsung’s next interface based on Android 15, currently in beta phase.
Initially, Samsung planned to introduce this new Bixby with the Galaxy Z Fold 6 and Z Flip 6 in July, but “scheduling issues” pushed back its launch. The successful deployment in China last month, however, paved the way for global expansion.
If the capabilities of the new assistant seem similar to those of Google Gemini, Samsung hopes that Galaxy S25 users will favor its native solution. However, the option to use Google Assistant will remain available.
This major Bixby update is part of Samsung’s broader AI strategy. The company has already introduced several generative AI features to its devices this year, including Sketch to Image and Circle to Search. According to the famous leaker @UniverseIce, this new version of Bixby could even constitute “ the main selling point » you Galaxy S25.
The global launch of this new Bixby, scheduled for next January, will likely be an important step in the race for AI assistants. Now we just have to get our hands on it so we can see for ourselves what this new personal assistant is worth.
