The celebration of the Amazigh New Year 2975 promises to be, like every year, full of festivities and significant events throughout Morocco. Various institutions, associations and civil actors have already engaged in the development of programs to pay tribute to this event of great symbolic significance for Moroccan and Amazigh identity.

The Amazigh New Year celebration, better known as “ Id Yennayer “, is a special moment of celebration of Amazigh culture and history, which brings together thousands of people throughout the kingdom each year. This year again, the programs promise to be diverse and rich in meaning, mixing popular festivities, artistic events, and academic reflections.

In Agadir, capital of the Souss-Massa region, the municipality, the Regional Council, the organization of the Timitar Festival, as well as other partners, have concocted a large-scale cultural program. Scheduled for January 10 to 14, it will include dance, music and theater performances, exhibitions dedicated to Amazigh heritage, as well as film screenings. Two conferences are also on the program: one on Amazighness in Morocco in light of the results of the 2024 census, the other on Amazigh drama and television production.

The association “ Summer University – Agadir » for its part, planned a national conference to celebrate the Amazigh New Year 2975, as well as other cultural activities, including tributes to emblematic figures of Amazigh culture. The city of Agadir, thus, positions itself as a nerve center of the celebrations of the year 2975, combining traditions, arts and reflection on the place of Amazighity in contemporary Moroccan society.

In the Rif, the association “ Amazighs Sanhaja of the Rif » continues its annual tradition with the “ Festival Bachikh », which will be held over three days, from January 10 to 12. This festival, a true point of convergence of Amazigh culture, offers intellectual conferences and artistic evenings, highlighting the dynamism of Amazigh culture in this region.

The Royal Institute of Amazigh Culture (IRCAM), a major player in the preservation and promotion of Amazigh culture, will add its stone to the building with a cultural event from January 13 to 17. Under the theme “ Yennayer: sustainable development lever », IRCAM will propose a reflection on the way in which this ancestral festival can be part of contemporary issues, in particular those linked to sustainable development and the preservation of natural resources.

Tiznit, for its part, is renewing its “Tiflouine” festivities this year, scheduled for January 11 to 14, under the slogan “Celebration of the land and identity”. A varied program awaits festival-goers, with events that will highlight Amazigh culture and its unwavering links with the land.

This excitement is not limited to the borders of Morocco. Many associations and political organizations, both in Morocco and internationally, are also preparing events to celebrate the Amazigh New Year, testifying to the vitality and universal scope of this celebration. It remains an opportunity to strengthen ties between Amazigh populations and to claim, through the festival, the preservation of an ancient culture.
