Solos, a Hong Kong-based company that specializes in tech accessories, has just announced a new pair of smart glasses, the AirGo Vision. Equipped with a camera and speakers, the glasses mainly feature ChatGPT 4o, the latest version of OpenAI’s generative AI. As we told you in our GPT 4o test, it is essentially distinguished by multimodal capabilities improved. In short, artificial intelligence is able to mix several modes of communication, such as text, sound or images.

Eyes and ears for ChatGPT

Thanks to the hardware hidden in the frames of the glasses, the AI will be able to interact with your environment. You can ask ChatGPT to translate a restaurant menu, a conversation in real time or to comment on the architecture around you. The glasses will simply give eyes and ears to the OpenAI chatbot.

As Solos explains in the press release, AI will be able to provide “real-time information based on visual recognition of people and objects (“what am I looking at?”), or on navigation and orientation to landmarks (“give me directions to the Eiffel Tower”)”. The brand also highlights the possibility of using it during a shopping session to claim the price of an item that we have in front of us.

Note that Solos isn’t limited to ChatGPT. The brand has already announced that the glasses can also accommodate other popular chatbots, such as Google’s Gemini and Anthropic’s Claude. We can expect more details on this in the coming months.

This is a welcome development from the AirGo 3 Solos announced in January 2024. The glasses did not have a camera. Everything happened through the speakers slipped into the branches. It was therefore necessary to use the companion application on the smartphone to provide images to ChatGPT. Above all, they were doing well thanks to their real-time translation functionwhich promised to abolish the language barrier.

The AirGo Vision also features LED lights for notifications. When the user receives an email or a call on their smartphone, the lights can turn on. According to Solos, this option can be useful in a noisy environment, such as a concert or a bar, or for users with poor hearing. We also appreciate the modular approach of the glasses. Indeed, it is possible to buy additional frames to attach to the glasses depending on your needs. This way, you can temporarily swap the camera for sunglasses.

Competition for Meta

With a camera, speakers and an AI-powered assistant, the AirGo Vision stands out as a solid alternative to the Meta Smart Glasses. Designed in partnership with Ray-Ban, the glasses feature Meta AIthe group’s intelligent assistant, recently. In the same way as GPT 4o, the AI can assist its user by commenting on their environment. They are sold at a starting price of 329 euros.

For now, Solos has only announced the price of the standard version, without a camera. It will sell for $249.99 sometime in July. It is not yet known when, or at what price, the AirGo Vision with a camera will be available for sale.
