“Beyond the simple consumer, the profiles of smugglers, actors of trafficking, can be varied in terms of age, gender, nationality or experience, occasional or professional smuggler,” assure the customs officers from the toll to the Parisian. The place is a real transit point for goods, an entry point to the Parisian metropolitan area but also a crossing point to the south of and Spain.

On the night of October 31 to November 1, customs officers arrested a 25-year-old man, an agricultural driver, who was transporting more than a kilo of cannabis in his vehicle. The young man admits to “stocking up with a kilo of cannabis every two months and trading with friends and acquaintances”. His process was well established: he placed the drugs in the middle of a field, sent a photo to the buyer of the exact location, who came to collect the goods and deposited the money there.

Between 100 and 1,000 euros

A few months ago, it was a 21-year-old Sciences Po student who was stopped with more than 10 kilos of heroin at the Saint-Arnoult tollbooth. “In court, she explained that she needed money to pay her rent, her parents could not help her financially,” learns the Parisian.

Job seekers, truck drivers, fathers… There does not seem to be a typical profile and the scourge affects a large number of professional categories. Each race can bring in between 100 and 1,000 euros, depending on the daily newspaper.
