As the launch of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 approaches, manufacturers are preparing new smartphones equipped with an overclocked version of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3. Called “cutting edge version”, it is essentially the same SoC that equips the Samsung Galaxy S24 series (S24 Ultra 256GB currently $1,199.99 at Amazon).

Samsung calls it Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 for Galaxy, but Chinese manufacturers have started using this more powerful SoC. Nubia has already announced its gaming-focused phone, the RedMagic 9S Pro with an overclocked chipset, and now it is announcing a new Z series smartphone https://weibo.com/2156294570/Ol5N62caz.

The official teasers don’t give much information about the phone, and Nubia hasn’t even said what it will be called. But rumors suggest that the new phone powered by a super-clocked Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 will launch as the Nubia Z60S Ultra, and like the non-S smartphone, it will come in a standard non-S smartphone version, and will reportedly feature a “flagship” camera.

Additionally, the upcoming phone is expected to feature a 1.5K display and an under-display camera, similar to what we saw on the Nubia Z60 Ultra. There will also be a limited edition variant at launch, which could be identical to the Starry Night Edition of the non-S smartphone.

As for the overclocked Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 in the RedMagic 9S Pro, it is said to have a clock speed of 3.4 GHz for the CPU and 1 GHz for the GPU. The standard version, on the other hand, has a maximum speed of 3.3 GHz for the CPU and a frequency of 900 MHz for the GPU. We could see something similar for the “first version” chip that will be in Nubia’s upcoming Z series phone.
