AstraZeneca relies on Tanium to secure its endpoints and develop medicines that change patients’ lives

Tanium helps global pharmaceutical group AstraZeneca secure more than 125,000 endpoints across 125 countries, using the Tanium XEM platform. AstraZeneca was thus able to consolidate several endpoint management tools to strengthen its overall agility, efficiency and visibility, in order to minimize the risk of cyberattack. The group’s managers and researchers can thus focus on their main mission: putting patients first and optimizing their research results.

“Any interruption in service represents a barrier for patients – exactly the opposite of what we want. I want to be able to get prescription medications to them as soon as possible and sustainably,” says Jeff Haskill, Vice President, Enterprise Technology Services at AstraZeneca. “We know that if we deliver, our scientists will not suffer any slowdown. They will be able to focus on what they do best: improving the health of patients. »

A key element of AstraZeneca’s success in optimizing the capabilities of the Tanium XEM platform is the use of powerful solutions offered in partnership with ServiceNow and Microsoft. With ServiceNow, the company optimizes collaboration between its IT and production teams, taking advantage of proven visibility, control and remediation capabilities with a comprehensive, real-time CMDB. And thanks to Microsoft, it benefits from new opportunities linked to automation, notably with the recent launch of Microsoft Copilot for Security. All of this increases organizational flexibility by providing security teams with unparalleled speed, accuracy and usability, and provides relevant, real-time information across all endpoints.

“With the countless number of AstraZeneca endpoints around the world, it is even more important to have real-time visibility, as well as the ability to make updates to these endpoints quickly and efficiently. at scale,” says Steve Daheb, Chief Marketing Officer at Tanium. “When the result can have a direct impact on the health of patients, there is not a second to lose. Tanium’s XEM platform enables AstraZeneca teams to be proactive by breaking down traditional silos, and reducing the complexity, costs and risks of deploying a multitude of point solutions. »

Other key features of the Tanium XEM platform that AstraZeneca leverages include accelerated patch installation and asset discovery. Before using Tanium, the AstraZeneca patch program required a full week. Today, it only takes 10 minutes to be installed. In addition, AstraZeneca relied on Tanium to analyze its IT environment for possible weaknesses, particularly following the Log4j attacks which occurred across the world from the end of 2021. Once the inventory was completed, the company used Tanium to deploy new updates, and only five days later.
