Toyota is introducing its 2025 Highlander lineup for Canada, which includes five hybrid models and four gasoline models. The lineup provides options for families looking for versatile SUVs with advanced technology and safety features. This year, the Highlander XSE trim gets some notable updates, including a new 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster.

All models are equipped with Toyota Safety Sense 2.5+, a suite of advanced driver assistance features, and the Toyota Multimedia System, which offers wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto integration. Starting at an MSRP of $50,210 for gas models and $50,550 for hybrid models, the 2025 Highlander offers a blend of capability and value.

Interior design and versatility

The Highlander is built on the Toyota New Global Architecture (TNGA) platform, which improves the vehicle’s handling, stability and efficiency. Its design emphasizes a low, wide stance with aerodynamic tread patterns to improve performance and ride quality.

Inside, the Highlander offers 7- or 8-passenger configurations, with up to 2,387 liters of cargo space when the rear seats are folded flat. Seven-seat models include second-row captain’s chairs, while eight-seat models feature a 60/40 split-folding second-row bench seat. Premium materials and padded surfaces create a comfortable and personalized environment in the cabin, regardless of the version.

Engine options

Buyers can choose between two powertrains. Gasoline models come with a 2.4-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine rated at 265 horsepower and 309 lb-ft of torque. Paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission, these models offer a towing capacity of up to 2,268 kg (5,000 lb). They include options such as dynamic torque vectoring all-wheel drive.

Hybrid models use Toyota’s Hybrid Synergy Drive system, which pairs a 2.5-liter engine with two electric motors to produce a total of 243 horsepower. With an estimated consumption of 6.7 l/100 km (combined cycle), these versions are also equipped with an electronic on-demand all-wheel drive system. Hybrid models can tow up to 1,588 kg.

Technology and security

The 2025 Highlander incorporates Toyota’s latest technologies, including the Toyota Multimedia System, which includes a wireless interface for smartphones and voice recognition functions. Higher trims offer upgraded audio systems, such as a 1,200-watt JBL Premium Surround Sound system with 11 speakers.

Safety features are robust across the range, with the Toyota Safety Sense 2.5+ system standard on all models. These include adaptive cruise control, lane departure warning and pre-collision system with pedestrian detection. Other safety systems include eight airbags, a blind-spot monitor with rear cross-traffic alert, and a rearview camera.

Trim Levels and Prices

The 2025 Toyota Highlander is available in nine trims, starting at $50,210 for gasoline models and $50,550 for hybrid models. The strong points of the range are as follows:

– XLE: eight-passenger capacity, heated front seats and 8-inch touch screen.

– XSE: seven-seat configuration, sports suspension and 12.3-inch digital dashboard.

– Limited and Platinum trims: premium upgrades such as leather-trimmed seats, panoramic sunroof and head-up display.

Hybrid versions include the LE, XLE, Nightshade Edition, Limited and Platinum, with distinct design cues and efficiency badges. The Nightshade Edition, for example, offers blacked-out styling accents, while the Platinum version includes features like rain-sensing wipers and a Bird’s Eye View monitor.
