Apple launches beta 2 of iOS 18 with many new features

After a first beta version intended for developers, a second version has just been launched bringing lots of new features.

During the recent edition of WWDC held on June 10, Apple presented these new operating systems iOS 18 and iPadOS 18. The next day, the firm deployed the first beta for developers. A few days later, a second version has just been released aimed at correcting the anomalies of the previous one.

Beta 2 accompanied by some adjustments

The Apple brand recently presented the new version of its SE which will forever mark its evolution. On the agenda, there will be incredible innovations promising to transform the user experience.

After launching beta 1, the second arrived on June 24. This should make it possible to rectify the dysfunctions of the previous one which encountered numerous problems. That’s why it’s best not to download it.

Furthermore, it is reserved for developers. They need to test the next version of the OS several months in advance to see if their application is still compatible and adapts well to Apple’s new requirements. The news will therefore correct many bugs, particularly in the camera and always-on screen of the iPhone Pro.

Another welcome new feature is the arrival of the RCS protocol on the Messages app. However, users who want to take advantage of it must enable it manually for now. Another change this version brings is the Dark mode for the App Store icon. The latter now turns black when the user activates dark mode on the home screen.

Planned restrictions

Although beta 2 comes with some new features that users like, it also brings some restrictions. Indeed, to the great dismay of Europeans, they will not be able to take advantage of certain long-awaited features, namely Apple Intelligence, iPhone Mirroring and Shareplay.

« Due to regulatory uncertainties caused by the Digital Markets Act (DMA), we do not expect to be able to roll out three features—iPhone Mirroring, SharePlay Screen Sharing enhancements, and Apple Intelligence—to our EU users this year», Explained the Cupertino company through a press release.

The exclusion from the Old Continent is in fact linked to the manufacturer’s conflict with the European Commission. This has made life difficult for the brand since the implementation of its new legislation aimed at blocking firms which held a monopoly in their sector of activity. If the American giant deployed the three features mentioned above, the competition could put obstacles in its way by offering similar functions.
