Blackmagic Design has finally made its Blackmagic Camera application available on Android. The professional video camera app is free to download and offers full manual controls. These controls are intended to make it easier for you to shoot professional-level, cinematic videos from your phone.

In the official press release https://www.blackmagicdesign.com/in/media/release/20240624-01blackmagic Design emphasizes that the application has the same “operating system” as high-end digital cameras such as company markets. When it comes to the app’s features, one of the most notable is the detailed heads-up display (HUD).

This display provides quick and easy access to some essential controls, including ISO sensitivity, white balance ( ), frame rate and lens selection white balance, frame rate and lens selection. You’ll also find image guides, a histogram, and recording settings. The Blackmagic Camera app also lets you play with other advanced settings. For example, a dedicated settings tab lets you select options like color space, supported codec, and more.

Like the iOS app launched last year, the Android version lets you capture video in landscape mode when you hold the phone in portrait orientation. Even more interesting, the Blackmagic Camera app can seamlessly integrate with Blackmagic Cloud and DaVinci Resolve.

If all these features seem interesting for a free application, the compatibility of the Blackmagic Camera application is currently limited. You can only download it from the Google Play Store if you have a Samsung or Google Pixel device. The company hasn’t shared which exact phones are compatible, but recent flagships such as the S24 Ultra, S23 Ultra, the Pixel 7 line (Pixel 7 Pro 256GB currently $443.71 at Amazon) and the series Pixel 8 can apparently run it without any problems.
