That’s it: the Google Gemini application is finally arriving in France and more widely throughout Europe. It allows you to access the chatbot and even make it a voice assistant. Enough to prepare for the end of Google Assistant.
It has been expected for months: the Google Gemini application is finally available in Europe, and in particular in France. It can be downloaded from the Google Play Store, but also on iOS from the Google application.
Gemini on smartphone: how to use the chatbot?
On Android, you can download the Gemini app directly from the Google Play Store for free. Please note that you will need to have a device running at least Android 10 and equipped with 2 GB of RAM or more.
So far, Gemini has been downloaded over a million times worldwide and appears to have good ratings. You can also activate the chatbot via Google Assistant if the application is installed on your device. To use Gemini, there are several solutions: simply go to the application, but not only that. You can use Gemini by swiping your finger directly from a corner of your screen, or by pressing the power button on your smartphone. Last method: say “Ok Google”, if the function is configured.

If you have an iPhone (running iOS 16 minimum), you will also be able to use Gemini. In the coming weeks, the chatbot will be available in the Google application. There will be a dedicated button in the latter. Furthermore, whether on iOS or Android, you need a Google account to use the application.
Features coming with the Gemini app
Google is clearly preparing the death of Google Assistant, or at least its revolution. For the moment, the voice assistant and Gemini will coexist. But Google specifies that “Many of the voice features you loved in Google Assistant will be available through the Gemini app.» For example, it is possible to configure a timer or make calls. Google is planning many more in the coming months. The other proof is that you can simply replace Google Assistant with Gemini in the Android settings.

In other uses advanced by Google, there is a writing assistant to help you write your Instagram publications, or something to plan a romantic evening (in order to find the perfect restaurant via Google Maps for example). We can also ask the tool to tell us who the architect of a monument is by taking a photo of it. More generally, Gemini is used to synthesize search results, if you want a precise cooking recipe or a historical description. Be careful, however, Gemini can make errors: the tool does so in Google AI Overviews search results, which creates a scandal across the Atlantic.
