Mclaren had already contributed its know-how to the benefit of new mobility through McLaren Applied, which benefited Lavoie, creator of high-end electric scooters and buyer of Vanmoof. McLaren Applied which was resold to Greybull Capital by the way.
Strangely, it is under its own label that the manufacturer unveils these two mountain bikes designed for enduro and trail. And when we say “under its own label”, we are not talking about rebadged existing models like Mercedes, Porsche or Alpine but about bikes actually designed in-house, from the carbon frame to the in-house engine.
Engine that displays a torque of 121 Nm moreover, which makes it the most powerful (legal) e-MTB engine on the market.
On the lighting side, McLaren has integrated a headlight with an intensity of 1,550 lumens.
Finally, the giant screen located above the axis of the stem uses the graphics of the brand’s supercar counters.

McLaren Sport 250
We are on a semi-rigid. The front suspension fork is a RockShox Pike Rush R offering 140mm of travel. The geometry offers a more open angle and the upper tube is very inclined: this allows you to have a well-balanced center of gravity when standing on the pedals.
The tires are 2.4-inch wide Pirelli Scorpions. THE carbon wheels are 29 inches in diameter. They are designed specifically for this bike.
THE frame is carbon fiber and developed in-house. By integrating the 540 Wh battery (in 36V), this McLaren Sport weighs only 13.88 kg. That is a power/weight ratio of 18 W/kg.
The 12-speed transmission is based on SRAM GX Eagle. As for the brakes, they are hydraulic SRAM G2 RE (obviously) with 4 pistons. The discs are 200 mm at the front and 180 mm at the rear.
Count 8,400 euros to equip you.
McLaren Extreme 250
With the Extreme 250, we fall into pure enduro. The carbon front wheel has a diameter of 29 inches. The tire, again from the Pirelli Scorpion, is 2.6 inches wide. At the rear, the wheel, also made of carbon, measures only 27.5 inches. The tire section drops to 2.4 inches. This asymmetry allows you to gain grip to optimize the energy delivered when climbing. Unlike enduro motorcycles which achieve the opposite, with a wider rear tire, the torque delivered by the cyclist and the assistance remains modest. Consequently, a small wheel and a narrower tire favor performance when the front allows grip and steering.
Note that the Extreme 250 is full suspension. The central suspension (positioned vertically) is a RockShox RS Deluxe Select+ allowing up to 145 mm of travel. The suspension fork is a RockShox Lyrik Rush RC with 160mm travel.
THE frame is always carbon and produced by McLaren. With the battery (identical to that of the Sport 250), this enduro weighs only 15 kg. That’s a power/weight ratio of 16.6 W/kg.
The SRAM XX Eagle AXS 12-speed transmission is wireless. On the braking side, this Extreme 250 also has 4-piston SRAM G2 RE, but with 200 mm discs in front and behind.
Count 11,150 euros. Which places it slightly below the Lapierre X Alpine Overvolt GLP III SE (11,500 euros). But the latter sports a different geometry which offers a lower center of gravity.
A homemade motor that displays enormous torque, but not for long
Electric bicycle motors are subject to strict standards in Europe. The nominal power must not exceed 250W, while the peak power is limited in time. Manufacturers juggle between a lot of power for a short time or diluted power over a longer period of time. The curve given by McLaren is also evocative of this constraint.
THE 121 Nm of torque are added to that issued by the cyclist. This allows you to overcome obstacles and reach heights that are impossible with a muscular person. This also allows you to regain grip.
