Aerial video enthusiasts looking for a small, easy-to-transport drone can turn to the DJI Mini 4 Pro, which has most of the features of the Mini 3 Pro, while offering better image quality. Currently, this drone that we really appreciated is offered at 714 euros instead of 799 euros on Amazon.

It was two years after launching its Mini 3 Pro that DJI introduced, last year, the successor to its small consumer drone, the Mini 4 Pro. The latter takes up a good part of the technical sheet of its predecessor, but numerous improvements have been made by the brand, which did not displease us. The proof: the DJI Mini 4 Pro obtained an excellent score of 9/10 during our test. If it tempts you, know that you can find it displayed for less than 720 euros currently.

The strong points of the DJI Mini 4 Pro

  • A compact and easy-to-use drone
  • Better image quality than the Mini 3 Pro
  • Omnidirectional obstacle detection
  • OccuSync 4 transmission technology

Previously offered at 799 euros, the DJI Mini 4 Pro is now available on sale for 714 euros on Amazon.

A truly light drone

Like all DJI Mini models, the DJI Mini 4 Pro is a particularly light drone: it weighs less than 250 grams, like its predecessor. A featherweight which also allows its user to do without the famous aptitude test on the civil aviation site, but also to fly it above the public, thanks to its C0 certification. However, this lightness also has a disadvantage: the drone is particularly vulnerable to wind and somewhat difficult weather conditions. In addition, you have to make do with a single lens (24 mm wide-angle) and a maximum battery life of 30 minutes, or 50% less than the DJI Air 3 or Mavic 3 drones.

Despite its toy appearance as it is small, the DJI Mini 4 Pro fortunately reveals great solidity. And to avoid small accidents, it integrates six obstacle detection lenses on its hull. Remember, however, that since the DJI does not have IP certification, it should not fly in the rain. Otherwise, the drone comes with an RC-N2 radio control, which requires the use of a smartphone in parallel to operate, unlike the RC2 radio control, which is more high-end and equipped with a screen.

Improved image quality

The DJI Mini 3 Pro already offered good image quality, but that offered by this Mini 4 Pro has been improved, thanks to a new ISP (Image Signal Processor) borrowed from the DJI Air 3; an image processor that plays a key role in processing raw data from the 1/1.3” CMOS sensor to produce high quality images. Their dynamic range is also remarkable here. Thanks to this new ISP, 10-bit D-LOG M video recording further gains in quality, with many details in dark and light areas.

The DJI Mini 4 Pro also inherits OccuSync 4 (O4) transmission technology, an improved radio technology with three frequency bands, while its predecessor made do with O3. In theory, the maximum flight distance is 18 km, but the Mini 4 Pro unfortunately does not have enough battery life to travel and return from such a distance. In our test, we were able to send the drone almost 3 km from its starting point, when there were no obstacles in the way and the radio signal was still excellent. Finally, the drone is controlled via the very comprehensive DJI Fly application, on which there are several very practical automatic modes (ActiveTrack 360°, Mastershots, etc.).
