Une last demonstration for the road? The Tour of Lombardy, the final Monument of the season, offers Tadej Pogacar the opportunity on Saturday to complete one of the greatest seasons in the history of cycling.
On the banks of Lake Como, where the 118th edition of the “dead leaves classic” will take place, the Slovenian, three-time outgoing winner, can write a new chapter in his book “In pursuit of the greatest” by matching Fausto Coppi , the “Campionissimo”, the only one to have won the race four years in a row, at the end of the 1940s. The peloton of other contenders will be led by Remco Evenepoel.

A dozen riders took the breakaway of the day, this Saturday morning, on the roads of the Tour of Lombardy. 170 kilometers from the finish, the chasing group with 11 runners (including Xandro Meurisse, Mauri Vansevenant and Tiesj Benoot.), made the junction. Thus having a 2min20 lead over the peloton.
Little by little, the peloton began to close the gap. The breakaway was down to just 1m40 with 148 kilometers to go. But the breakaway did not give up and increased its lead to three minutes, 25 kilometers further. But this gap has increased significantly: four minutes with 100 kilometers to go.
