If Xiaomi already offers foldable smartphones in book format in its catalog, brought together in its Fold range, the Chinese brand has until now never designed flip smartphones. It’s now done: last July, the manufacturer formalized the release of its Xiaomi Mix Flip, a high-end foldable smartphone in clamshell format which could well overshadow its competitors at Samsung and Motorola. We had the opportunity to use the smartphone for a few hours during a press conference, and we particularly liked this model. The problem is that its introductory price is very, very high. Fortunately, this one has just collapsed, in the middle of the French Days period.

An XXL external screen!
The Xiaomi Mix Flip is therefore a foldable flip smartphone, but it is clear that the brand has done everything to make it as compact as possible. And it’s successful: this model is really thin, whether folded or unfolded. It certainly doesn’t do better than its big competitor, the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 6, but it comes close. Above all, it fits very easily in a pocket and offers excellent grip, and that’s good enough. Furthermore, a foldable clamshell smartphone necessarily has a hinge, and unfortunately, this is a little disappointing. If in the closed position, the Mix Flip does not open by itself and a moderate and reassuring force is necessary to open it, in the open position, it is much less secure. In fact, the smartphone does not lock completely in this position and a slight play at the hinge may be felt… Rest assured, it remains a sensation and we can trust Xiaomi for the reliability of the whole thing.
Let’s move on to the real stars of this Mix Flip: its screens. First of all, we are treated to a large 4.01-inch Amoled LTPO external panel offering a refresh rate ranging from 1 to 120 Hz and a definition of 1,392 x 1,208 pixels. Note that this takes up the entire surface of the screen, which is really nice. Another advantage: you can launch many applications, which Samsung doesn’t really offer… In short, the integration of this external screen is visually very successful and it turns out to be really practical. Regarding the internal screen, it measures 6.85 inches, the panel is also Amoled LTPO with a definition of 2,912 x 1,224 pixels and also offers a maximum brightness of 1,700 nits, ensuring very high performance. good visibility of information, even in direct sunlight. Small downside all the same for the fold which is felt a little during vertical scrolling on this internal screen.
Xiaomi skips the ultra-wide-angle
On the photo side, the Xiaomi Mix Flip has a 50 Mpx wide-angle lens and a 50 Mpx x2 telephoto lens, developed with Leica. You may have noticed that Xiaomi has chosen to do without an ultra wide-angle here. But let’s keep in mind that it is difficult to offer three sensors on a Flip smartphone. In practice, the photos captured by this smartphone are of good quality, but the post-processing seems a little too high, which tends to distort the photos. Special mention all the same for the external screen which can be used to frame when taking selfies with the main sensors, the smartphone closed.
In the bowels of the Mix Flip, we also find a high-end Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chip from Qualcomm, which is very efficient in running the smartphone at full power. Unfortunately, we were not able to launch any demanding games during our handling, but this chip should not disappoint for this use. Finally, as for the autonomy of the Mix Flip, the latter contains a battery with a capacity of 4,780 mAh: it is quite simply the largest battery that can be found on the smartphone market. flapper. So endurance should be quite enjoyable. The smartphone is also compatible with 67W fast charging.
