“Tatort” star is calling it quits – that’s why Manzel is getting out

“Crime Scene: Nevertheless”
That’s why Manzel is stepping down as commissioner

Investigating together in the Franconian crime scene for almost 10 years: Dagmar Manzel and Fabian Hinrichs (here at their presentation in 2015 as a new team).

This Sunday is the last Franconian “crime scene” with Dagmar Manzel. Here the actress explains why she is quitting as Chief Inspector Paula Ringelhahn.

The suicide of a young prisoner leads to a chain of deadly events in the “crime scene” this Sunday. This is the tenth and final case for Chief Inspector Paula Ringelhahn. The Berlin actress Dagmar Manzel is leaving the Franconian “crime scene” at her own request.

“It’s a great series and it’s been ten great years,” she told the stern: “But my professional focus is the Komische Oper in Berlin, the musical theater.”

The season there runs from September to June. “It was often difficult to find filming times,” says Manzel: “We always had to make compromises.” Especially since co-investigator Fabian Hinrichs (aka Chief Inspector Felix Voss) as a father always has to take school vacation times into account.

For the 66-year-old Berliner, there is another reason for her leaving: “I’m also retired now and want to have more time for myself and my family.”

Career in East and West

Manzel was born as a teacher’s daughter in the East Berlin district of Friedrichshagen and trained as an actress at the Berlin State Drama School.

She played, among other things, in the last DEFA film before the fall of the Berlin Wall, “Coming Out”, and after the fall of the Wall in successful productions such as the Hitler diary satire “Schtonk!”, “Crazy” and “Klemperer – A Life in Germany”, for which she was awarded “Best Actress Series” in 2000.

Her star role: the partner of a serial killer

She is also a permanent member of the ensemble at the Komische Oper Berlin. One of her signature roles is the partner of a serial-killing barber in “Sweeny Todd,” a part Manzel first took on in 2004.

Manzel was married twice, including to her fellow actor Robert Gallinowski, who died in 2023. She has a daughter from a previous relationship.
