Interpol is conducting a campaign looking for clues in 46 unsolved murder cases. According to the international police organization, every detail could help solve the cases – sometimes after decades.

Their bodies were found decades ago, but their identities remain unclear to this day: The international police organization Interpol wants to launch a campaign to get a little closer to solving the long-ago murders of women in Europe.

Together with the German, Belgian, Dutch, Italian, French and Spanish police, she is looking for clues about 46 women’s bodies in the “Identify Me” campaign. Most of these women were murdered or died under suspicious or unclear circumstances. Nine of the still unidentified dead were found in Germany.

Even the smallest bit of information could help

On the campaign website, Interpol published facial reconstructions as well as images of jewelry and clothing found on the women. Interpol quoted its Secretary General Jürgen Stock: “Even the smallest piece of information can be crucial in clearing up these unsolved cases.” Publicity could be the key to finding a name and a past and ensuring long-overdue justice.

“Identify Me” was originally launched in May last year with the aim of identifying 22 dead women. Around 1,800 tips were received from the public about the cases from Germany, Belgium and the Netherlands. A woman has been identified 31 years after her death – a British woman whose body was found in Belgium in 1992, the Federal Criminal Police Office said.

Nine unexplained cases from Germany

There are now also a total of nine unexplained deaths of women whose bodies were discovered in Germany between 1986 and 2002. As the campaign expanded, three women were added: One was found in a military training area near Hanover in 1994, one in Frankfurt im Main in 2001 and one in the Lahn-Dill district in Hesse in 1989.
