We thank you for following the canton derby here in the live ticker and wish you a nice rest of the weekend.

In the table, Winterthur’s 1-0 win meant that the FCW handed over the red lantern to the Bernese Young Boys, at least overnight. They will meet Basel away tomorrow. GC is currently stuck in 9th place – only two points separate the Hoppers from the bottom of the table.

The Grasshoppers remained pale, especially in the second half. GC could have – indeed almost should have – led to a tea break. Ndenge missed the best chance of the game in the 34th minute when FCW goalkeeper Kapino hexed his attempt from close range onto the inside post. Shortly before, the man between the Winterthur posts had denied Morandi the opening goal when he directed his shot around the post. Kapino had also already excelled with Paskotsi’s header (24′). But what Zurich offered after the restart was unlikely to satisfy coach Schällibaum. Ultimately, GC is punished for an extremely passive second half after failing to take the lead.

The FCW doesn’t let anything go wrong in stoppage time and celebrates frantically about their first win since the opening game against St. Gallen in July. Apart from substitute Baroan’s lucky punch (87th), Winterthur posed virtually no threat to score. While it took a brilliant Kapino in the first half to keep the score at zero, the Eulachstadt team defended their case uncompromisingly after the break. The victory was not stolen as Winterthur was the better team in the second round against a pale GC.

The game is over, Baroan shoots Winterthur to a 1-0 win.

GC is punished for its pale second half – and is now challenged. Hammel’s long ball is cleared by Stillhart and Di Giusto in conjunction, the latter takes a relief free kick. Winterthur is only a few moments away from its second win of the season.

Things are going haywire here, GC throws everything forward again. Here are a few more additions: Baroan received a yellow card for celebrating without a jersey, and Tobers was also cautioned. Furthermore, Schürpf came into play for Seko in the final minutes for the Grasshoppers. Finally, the five-minute stoppage time was announced.

The Schützenwiese is shaking! While half the stadium throws their hands because Baroan ignores his colleagues who are running along, Baroan sends the ball flat into the right corner of the goal. It’s a hit out of nowhere. On the one hand, because no team made any real effort to net here. But undoubtedly also because Baroan was anything but in form before today’s game.

Goal for Winterthur! Baroan puts FCW in the front!

The dangerous GC, which should have led after the first 45 minutes, remained completely in the dressing room. Since the break, Winterthur has been the main player. However, this also reveals why the Eulachstädters have only netted five times in the current season and only have two different goalscorers: FCW cannot be credited with any real chances.

At FCW, Baroan ends Bajrami’s workday. On the other side, Schällibaum brings Muci and Bojang into the game for Lee and Kittel.

Apart from his different colored shoes, Burkart now stands out for the first time through an action on the pitch. But his finish is one of the previous Winterthur shots on goal, none of which posed any danger. At least there is a corner for the FCW.

We’ve been waiting for some excitement for some time now. The number of spectators has to cheer up: 8,700 fans are attending the canton derby – a sold-out Schützenwiese is longing for the first goal of the game.

Now the time has come: Burkart and Durrer come into play at Winterthur for Lukembila and Schneider. GC also changes: Veron Lupi replaces the pale Choinière.

Through its deep defense, Winterthur relies on quick switching and targeted attacks. Who could help better than winger Burkart? The long-term injured player is getting ready for his first appearance this season.

The large-scale fireworks display of the GC appendix and the consequent interruption give us time for a brief assessment. Winterthur has been a little better since the restart – GC really doesn’t get off to a good start in this second half. However, both teams almost completely lack any playful sparkle.

The game doesn’t have a lot of quality at the moment. Bad pass follows bad pass. Somehow the Winterthurians still manage to combine into the sixteen. With his back to the goal, Bajrami cannot cause any danger.

Bajrami remains lying down, this time Schärer’s whistle sounds. The yellow card goes to Zaric, who had requested it for Abels. The Winterthur coach’s frustration is entirely understandable; the serious foul play should have been punished with a warning.
