No less than nine Swiss will try their luck on Monday in qualifying for the Australian Open. Viktorija Golubic (WTA 90), who reached the round of 16 in Melbourne in 2024, is playing big.
Seeded No. 2 in this qualifying table, Viktorija Golubic puts 130 points at stake in this first Grand Slam lift of the year. She could fall beyond 110th place in the world in the event of premature failure.
The 32-year-old from Zurich will face the Ukrainian Anastasiia Sobolieva (WTA 216) in the first round of qualifying. She shone too late this fall (2 titles, in the WTA 250 in Jiangxi and the Challenger in Limoges) to directly enter the final draw.
Six other Swiss women will be in the running
Six other Suissesses seront en lice. Susan Bandecchi will face the Russe Polina Kudermetova, Rebeka Masarova the Espagnole Irene Burillo Escorihuela, Simone Waltert the Tchèque Barbora Palicova, Jil Teichmann the Chinoise Shi Han, Céline Naef the Serbe Nina Stojanovic and Léonie Küng the Roumaine Elena-Gabriela Ruse.
Among the men, only Jérôme Kym and Marc-Andrea Hüsler will be entered. Seeded no. 27, the Aargau native will face the Dutchman Tim van Rijthoven. The Zurich resident will battle it out with Monegasque Valentin Vacherot.
