The Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) and La Liga have decided to reject FC Barcelona’s request to re-register Dani Olmo for the second half of the season, the two organizations said in a joint statement published on Saturday.
According to the Spanish press, this situation opens the possibility that Dani Olmo and youngster Pau Victor, who also had his request for a new license rejected, could sign for any other team during the January transfer window, currently being virtually released from their contract.
The Monitoring Commission, formed by the two organizing bodies of Spanish football, “decided not to grant the prior visa or the definitive license requested by FC Barcelona for the players Daniel Olmo Carvajal and Pau Victor Delgado”, indicated the entities in their press release.
She bases her decision on the articles which “prevent a player whose license is canceled from being able, during the same season, to obtain a license in the same team of the club to which he was already linked”.
On December 31, La Liga removed from its website the two players from the FC Barcelona team registered to play in the Spanish championship because the club did not meet the financial conditions required to have them participate.
Neither was in the group for the 16th final of the Copa del Rey between Barça and the amateur club Barbastro scheduled for this Saturday.
The debt-ridden Blaugranas signed Olmo until December 31, 2024 with 80% of the salary of the injured Dane Andreas Christensen, thanks to an exception which allows clubs to replace players absent for long periods.
The possible free departure of the Spanish international, recruited for around 60 million euros last summer, would be a major sporting and financial blow for Barça, currently third in La Liga and second in the group stage of the League champions.
This season, the 26-year-old has scored five goals in the league and one in C1.
