This Friday at a press conference, the Marseille manager spoke about the level of the French championship and its management.
Roberto De Zerbi, the Italian coach of OM, estimated on Friday that Ligue 1 was “a championship probably poorly sold” et “stronger than we think abroad”.
“I believe that Ligue 1 is a stronger championship than what people think abroad”declared De Zerbi, asked about his impressions of the French championship, six months after his arrival in Marseille. “It is probably poorly sold by those who manage it”he added.
“Ligue 1 is sold less well than other championships”
“Outside France, Ligue 1 is considered a low-level championship, but that is not at all the case. There are strong players, strong coaches, full stadiums, very hot fans”said De Zerbi, who has already coached in Italy, Ukraine and England.
“I think that Ligue 1 is less well sold, less well highlighted, than the Premier League, which is the best championship in Europe, or than the Serie A, the Liga or the Bundesliga”he judged.
“I don’t know if it’s poorly managed, or poorly sold abroad. In Italy in any case, no one sees OM matches and that's a shame. There are players in L1 who then go to England, Germany, everywhere”he added. “France is a country that loves football. It's a shame that it is not appreciated abroad for what it has to offer.concluded the OM coach.
