Cercle de Bruges: a surprising successor for Miron Muslic?

Cercle de Bruges announced on Monday the end of its collaboration with Miron Muslic. The Austrian coach did not survive his team’s painful defeat against Beerschot (3-2).

In recent years, Cercle has managed to move from the status of a candidate for relegation to that of a sub-top club. After all, the team managed to combine an energetic and attractive style of play with positive results. Last season, the Bruges residents even managed to qualify for Play-Off I, and won fourth place and a European ticket. So did a great job.

As a reminder, the Austrian joined Cercle in 2021 as an assistant before being promoted to T1 in 2022. In December last year, he was also rewarded with a new contract until June 2025 .

De Wulf

This season, the results are very disappointing, the Cercle is in a painful penultimate place in the standings. In addition, in recent weeks, tensions have increased between Muslic and part of the board of directors. This is why the collaboration was interrupted.

To replace him, the Bruges leaders called on assistant coach Jimmy De Wulf. He will lead the team for Wednesday’s cup match against Sint-Truiden. In the meantime, the club management is looking for a new T1. For the moment, no names are being circulated.

An English coach?

According to Franck Boeckx, Cercle must look for a coach with playing ideas similar to those of Muslic: “I think they will have to look outside of Belgium and rather look at the English D2 or D3. In the meantime , De Wulf is the ideal man to take over as interim because he knows the players.”
