F1: Verstappen sanctioned, Red Bull “shocked”

Not everything went as planned for Max Verstappen during the Austrian Grand Prix this Sunday. Involved in a collision with Lando Norris, the Dutchman received a 10-second penalty and therefore finished the race in fifth position. Christian Horner also said he was rather shocked by the sanction imposed on the three-time reigning world champion.

The Austrian Grand Prix was more complicated than expected for Max Verstappen. First in the last 10 laps of the race, the Dutchman was involved in a collision with Lando Norris, who put pressure on him. As a result, the three-time world champion received a 10-second penalty and therefore found himself relegated to fifth position. Christian Horner then spoke about the sanction imposed on Max Verstappen.

“It looked like there was enough space for Lando”

« We thought we had it under control, we were leading by eight seconds, we were covering what Lando was doing. With the temperatures dropping, the mediums seemed better so we put them on, and the delay at the pits brought us closer together. After that, Lando went over the limits four times, he was going to get a penalty and he was over-ambitious so it’s frustrating. It seemed like there was enough space for Lando and he had already made four desperate attacks ” first explained the boss of Red Bull in remarks reported by NextGen-Auto.

“I thought the penalty was harsh”

« He had an infraction before with all four track limits exceeded, but it’s one of those things. We will bounce back next weekend. You have tough drivers and I think Lando stuck his neck out, and there had been contact with them before, but in the end it cost them both. I thought the penalty was harsh for Max, I’m a little shocked, but sometimes that’s racing ” then added Christian Horner.
