Days after acquiring Mikhail Sergachev, the Utah team continued to secure the future of its defensive corps by extending its partnership with Sean Durzi.

The 25-year-old guard has agreed to a four-year pact, the organization announced Sunday. The Ontarian has more than tripled his previous salary ($1.7 million) since he will now earn $6 million per campaign.

Acquired from the Los Angeles Kings a year ago in exchange for a second-round pick, Durzi immediately established himself as the Arizona Coyotes’ best defender. He will be able to continue his momentum in Utah, where he will now be better surrounded.

“Sean is a reliable, complete defenseman who solidifies our power play unit and brings offence to the blue line. He is young, very talented and has an incredibly bright future ahead of him and we are excited to have him as part of the core of this organization,” general manager Bill Armstrong said in a statement.

In addition to Sergachev, the new club on the Bettman circuit also added John Marino via trade and announced the signings of Michael Kesselring and Juuso Valimaki in recent days.

An offensive-minded defenseman, Durzi polished the defensive side of his game in Arizona. He set a career-high 41 points, including nine goals, in 76 games. He also blocked a team-high 162 shots.
