Patrick Kane has signed a one-year deal with the Detroit Red Wings.

The organization confirmed the news, which was reported earlier Sunday by Larry Brooks of the NY Post. The contract is for one season and will pay a base salary of $4 million. According to Pierre LeBrun of The Athleticthe forward could fetch up to $6.5 million with bonuses. He also has a no-trade clause in the deal.

Rumors have circulated in recent hours that Kane’s services were of interest to a few teams, including the Montreal Canadiens, according to Frank Seravalli of DailyFaceoff.

The 35-year-old veteran had 20 goals and 47 points in 50 games last year in his first season with the Wings.

In 2015-16, he set a career high with 46 goals with the Chicago Blackhawks, who drafted him first overall in 2007.

He also played 19 games with the New York Rangers in 2022-23.

In his career, he scored 471 goals and accumulated 813 assists in 1,230 games.

He lifted the Stanley Cup three times during his long stay in Chicago.

Kane has already undergone hip resurfacing surgery from which only two other players have returned.

In his first season with the Red Wings, he came close to amassing a point per game, completing the campaign with 20 goals and 27 assists in 50 games.

Among American-born players, only Mike Modano has more NHL points than Kane (1,284). He will be entering his 17th professional season.

Kane will try to help the Red Wings end an eight-year playoff drought, the longest such streak in organization history.

Earlier Sunday, the team made qualifying offers to Lucas Raymond, Moritz Seider, Jonatan Berggren and Joe Veleno to retain their rights.
