His future with the Clippers seemed (still seems?) very uncertain but, for the moment, Russell Westbrook remains a player of the California franchise. ESPN actually indicates that, like PJ Tucker, he is not using his “player option” to test the market and he will therefore receive $4 million in 2024/25.

Used off the bench since the arrival of James Harden, while he was a starter at the start of the season, the 2017 MVP says he is ready to accept any role at The Angels. He came out of an exercise with 11.1 points, 5.0 rebounds, 4.5 assists and 1.1 interceptions, the least productive of his career, at 45% shooting (including 27% at 3-points) and 69% on free throws. All in 23 minutes of play.

The problem is that Russell Westbrook is less and less effective when it comes time for the playoffs and, during the first round against the Mavericks, he still seemed very borrowed in the game: only 6.3 points, 4.2 rebounds, 1.7 passes and 1.2 interceptions, 26% shooting, 24% 3-pointers and 62% free throws…

It now remains to be seen whether the Clippers will keep the ultra energetic “Brodie” or if they will prefer to part with him to bring in a more academic and less unpredictable playmaker (Chris Paul or Kyle Lowry?). In the meantime, their priority is to extend Paul George and James Harden.
