It’s historic, Guyanese Gemima Joseph with a time of 11”01 over 100m becomes 2024 French elite champion by establishing her second personal record of the year.

The Guyanese sprinter achieved the 3rd best French performance of all time by achieving a time of 11”01 in the 100m this evening at the elite French championship. A remarkable performance a few weeks before the Paris Olympic Games for which she obtained her qualification on April 13 during the Guyana Games.
Will Gemima one day beat the record of the one nicknamed Queen Christine, holder of the European 100m record in 10’73 obtained 23 years ago?
In any case, the young sprinter seems to be in a phase of progression that should be at its peak in August. We can only hope that she goes below the 10-second mark and thus joins the very restricted circle of the best runners in the world.

His trainer, Gaëtan Tariaffe, is very satisfied with this result:

“We came so that Gemima achieves a time over 100 and 200m but the title is important since she has never been titled in this elite category. Today she is the leader with an excellent time. This allows her to climb the stages at European and global level and it is important for the games.”
