The Canadian was linked to Rutger McGroarty yesterday (and more to come today)

In a first text this morning, I said that the Canadiens had a nearly perfect evening. We talked about the positives, namely the two choices (Ivan Demidov, who will be a first-line player for a long time, and Michael Hage, who brings depth to the center) and the presence of Céline…

But we must say a word about the negative: the Canadian did not move.

You’ll tell me he moved for pick #21 and you’d be right. But you also know what I mean: no defenseman was traded for an impact forward.

Is it the end of the world? No. After all, while the draft is a good time to do it, it’s not the only moment to manage to write a treatise of this kind.

But it still remains an aspect to highlight.

Has Kent Hughes tried? Of course he has. And according to what he himself has said, he still has a few small projects in the works and he is not done trying to improve his team.

Nothing was imminent last night, but still.

Obviously, you can think of Martin Necas, Trevor Zegras, Yaroslav Askarov or Rutger McGroarty, for example. These guys could have been traded yesterday for a first-round pick, but it didn’t happen.

But let’s focus on the Jets.

Yesterday, the name of the Montreal Canadiens circulated en masse in the Rutger McGroarty file. We feel that Kent Hughes has his eyes fixed on the Jets’ hope to improve his top-6.

And according to Chris Johnston, the Canadian did indeed try his hand at the Jets’ hope. This wasn’t necessarily against pick #5, but when Ivan Demidov came into the picture, the rest took a bit of a backseat.

McGroarty, who commented on Michael Hage’s Instagram post following his first-round selection, could still be traded today. Will CH and its surplus of defenders in the same mold be in the mix?

That remains to be seen. But the day could be interesting, clearly.

A lot of

– Is Ivan Demidov’s French better than Jeff Gorton’s?

– Oh…

– Reminder: four clubs said no.

– I had that DVD too.

– Claude Julien wanted a chief position in the NHL. Here he is instead an assistant in Saint-Louis. [NYT]

– Ouch.
