Results and summary of the F1 Sprint in Austria

Red Bull driver Max Verstappen won the 24-lap Austrian Grand Prix Sprint race. The Dutchman is ahead of Oscar Piastri’s McLaren and the other McLaren driven by Lando Norris on the finish line.

Behind, George Russell, Carlos Sainz, Lewis Hamilton, Charles Leclerc and Sergio Perez completed the top eight at the finish of this Sprint.

Independent of the Austrian GP

The results of this Sprint race have absolutely no connection with the Austrian Grand Prix. Indeed, a “classic” qualifying session is scheduled for this Saturday afternoon at 16:00 (Paris time) and the results of this qualifying session will determine the positions on the starting grid for the main race scheduled for this Sunday, June 30 in Spielberg.

Battle between Verstappen and the McLarens

During a rather calm Sprint race (no incidents to report), it was on the front of the race that it was necessary to concentrate with a tight battle between Max Verstappen and the two McLaren drivers. If at the start Max Verstappen managed to keep the lead of the race, the Dutchman was then overtaken by Lando Norris who launched an attack under braking at turn 3

But a few meters further, Lando Norris missed and saw Max Verstappen take control of the Sprint, while his teammate Oscar Piastri took the opportunity to overtake him and take second place. The Australian will manage to maintain this second place until the checkered flag, despite the great pressure from Norris until the last meters.

Top eight score points

During a Sprint, only the top eight drivers score points in the world championship. Red Bull driver Sergio Perez – eighth at the checkered flag – is therefore the last to score this Saturday.

The qualifying session for the Austrian Grand Prix is scheduled for this Saturday, June 30 at 4:00 p.m. (Paris time) and the session will be available to follow live on our website at this address.
