Landry N’Guemo has left us

This is tragic news that reached us this Thursday afternoon. Several Cameroonian media outlets announced the death, in a road accident, of Landry N’Guemo, a former professional player who played for AS Saint-Etienne. He was 38 years old.

A small-built midfielder (1.74m), Landry N’Guemo joined the AS Nancy-Lorraine training center at the beginning of the century. In 2005, he played his first Ligue 1 match in the colors of his training club. Throughout his career, Landry N’Guemo discovered Celtic Glasgow during the 2009/2010 season, the Girondins de Bordeaux between 2011 and 2014, the Verts de l’ASSE during the second half of the 2014/2015 season, before heading to Turkey (Akhisar Belediyespor then Kayserispor) and ending his career in Norway at Kongsvinger IL in 2019/2020. In selection, he played 42 matches in the colors of Cameroon and scored 3 goals.

The midfielder’s move to AS Saint-Etienne was quick: at the end of his contract in the summer of 2014, the Girondins de Bordeaux did not renew his contract. He was then on the verge of signing with RC Lens, but the ban on recruiting blood and gold players prevented him from joining the club. He nevertheless trained at the club until December 2014, while waiting for the ban to be lifted, but no salary agreement was ultimately reached. He then joined the Verts in January for 6 months, in order to compensate for Renaud Cohade’s injury.

The Greens’ supporters particularly remember his sublime strike from outside the area against Lens in a crazy match (3-3). In total, he played 14 Ligue 1 matches and scored 1 goal with the Greens (+3 in the Coupe de France). He is not not extended by ASSE at the end of the season.

When he left, he made these comments on social networks: ” The adventure with Saint-Etienne is over. I was able to spend 6 incredible months, during which I measured the incredible fervor around this historic club. I was very touched by all your messages of support and encouragement, which I received in mass. But it is up to me to thank you for your welcome and your generosity. New challenges await you on the European and French scene. You will still have the opportunity to set the Cauldron on fire! »

The editorial staff of Peuple-Vert presents its sincere condolences to his family, his loved ones and all those saddened by this sudden disappearance.
