Ukraine-Belgium, why a sky blue jersey for the Red Devils?

Belgium faces Ukraine with an astonishing jersey, this Wednesday in Stuttgart, for its last match in Group E of Euro 2024. Explanations.

Belgium will know. With 3 points on the clock after two matches, like the other three teams in Group E, Domenico Tedesco’s players have every interest in beating Ukraine this Wednesday evening in Stuttgart, if they want to approach the round of 16 more calmly.

If they finish first, the Belgians will indeed face one of the best third-placed teams from groups A, B, C and D. If they finish second, their current place, they will however cross paths with the French team at the start of the final phase. Anything but a gift.

In the event of defeat, they could draw a definitive line on this Euro 2024, depending on the result of the match between Slovakia and Ukraine. A scenario which would be experienced as a snub to the flat country, especially given the draw which had reserved for them an apparently affordable group.

A jersey in homage to Tintin

For this decisive meeting against the Ukrainians, the Belgians will wear their brand new “away” outfit, consisting of a sky blue jersey with a white collar and brown shorts. Why such colors for Kevin De Bruyne and his teammates, nicknamed the Red Devils?

The Belgian federation and its equipment supplier, Adidas, actually wanted to pay homage to Tintin, the famous reporter drawn by Hergé from 1930 to 1976. The sky blue of this outer tunic thus recalls the sweater of Snowy’s master, and the brown shorts his pants. A nice wink.
