Cycling. Road – Europe – Due to lack of resources, France will miss the European times

The French Cycling Federation has decided to give up on the various time trials during the European Road Championshipswhich will be held from September 11 to 15, 2024 next in Flanders and more precisely in the province of Limburg, in Belgium, according to DirectVélo. No Bruno Armirail (Decathlon AG2R La Mondiale) orAudrey Cordon-Ragot (Human Powered Health) despite their victory during the French Championships recently, nor even a mixed relay, despite being crowned European champion and vice-world champion in 2023. This decision to skip the times was taken because of a lack of money linked to the Paris 2024 Olympic Gamesbut also to the multiplication of Championships and Cups organized by the International Cycling Union (UCI) and the European Cycling Union (UEC).

Courses also canceled

This choice was imposed on us for budgetary reasons but it was necessary to make this decision, reluctantly. We are in a context of inflation, everyone must make drastic choices. This is our reality“, explain Julien Thollet, manager of the French teams. According to the Executive Office, the Olympic Games caused more to be spent than was planned and the federation had to make savings on certain races, including the European Championships. The coach of the juniors as well as the men’s and junior women’s prospects indicated that training courses had been canceled due to a lack of budget. If the time trials of European Championships are snubbed, those of World’s Championshipsorganized from September 21 to 29 near Zürich (Switzerland), are however still on the program for the French team.
