Holder of a Master’s degree in sports journalism, I fell in love with tennis since childhood and have always loved reading the great stories of this sport. Today, I want to tell them about them, take full advantage of my passion and be as close as possible to the aces of the circuit.

Barely had the summer transfer window launched, PSG announced the arrival of Matvey Safonov, a 25-year-old Russian goalkeeper, at the club. Player of FK Krasnodar since his debut in 2017, he has become a great reference for the club and the time has come for him to try to conquer Europe. But this arrival in the capital club for a price of around 20 million euros surprised more than one, starting with the main interested party.

Far from being a name that has circulated a lot, Matvey Safonov has proven itself over the last few seasons by winning the FK Krasnodar, in Russia. The goalkeeper, however, waited several years for an offer for him to come through and it was ultimately PSG who made the move. But he certainly didn’t expect to receive such recognition for joining a major European club.

“I was very surprised”

By signing a contract until 2029 with the PSG for an amount of around €20M, Matvey Safonov is enchanted. “To my knowledge, no club had made specific offers before PSG. I played in the Champions League but there were still no offers. Russian clubs no longer play in Europe… I didn’t expect to receive such an offer. I was very surprised” he recently confided during an interview with the Russian media Nobel. It must be said that this transfer surprised everyone, first and foremost the supporters.

Recruited for €20M

To recruit Matvey Safonov at the club, the PSG still had to pay a nice sum for a player that no one was talking about before. The Russian goalkeeper aims to establish himself as a starter and he hopes to benefit from his experience in European Cup to respond present. Indeed, despite the ban on Russian clubs playing in Europe for two years due to the current context, Safonov has already played in Champions League and in Europe League with the FK Krasnodar.
