This Tuesday evening against Poland (6 p.m. in Dortmund), Jonathan Clauss will perhaps have his only chance to participate on the field at Euro 2024. His presence among the 26 Blues has long been unexpected for this 31-year-old Alsatian who, ten years ago, was already playing in Germany, but in the South Baden Association League, the equivalent of the second Swiss regional league.

Trained at the Strasbourg Racing Club (RCSA) for almost ten years, Jonathan Clauss saw his dreams of professionalism collapse in 2010 when he was not retained. He is 17 years old and seems to be in a dead end. “The hardest thing was having the impression of not being able to do anything else,” he testified at the microphone of the Professional Football League two years ago. And that’s probably why I put too much pressure on myself at the training center. I told myself that if I didn’t succeed in football, I was dead.”
