Euro 2024: Griezmann sanctioned by Deschamps

While Didier Deschamps has decided to field his best team to face Poland, the French coach has decided to do without the services of Antoine Griezmann. A (very) strong choice.

The Blues may well have officially qualified for the round of 16 of the Euro, but the last match against Poland is anything but trivial. It will determine the place of the French team in Group D and therefore its route to the final phase. And given the forces present, Didier Deschamps’ men have every interest in (well) beating Poland to finish in first place.

For the occasion, Kylian Mbappé should make his comeback at the forefront of the French attack. And as against Austria, he should be surrounded by Ousmane Dembélé and Marcus Thuram, although they were little seen during the Blues’ first two matches. Conversely, Antoine Griezmann should leave his place. A strong choice since the Mâconnais has systematically been fielded in high-stakes matches since Euro 2016.

“He’s had a busy season. In matches with high intensity, in the heart of the game, it is not easy”said the French coach about him, adding: “He was better against the Netherlands, with the two chances he had. Realizing at least one would change the vision of his performance. But for Benoît Trémoulinas, this sidelining does indeed constitute a sanction.

“There is an upheaval and it is Griezmann who toasts”

“When you have a decisive match and you don’t put Antoine Griezmann on, it’s a sanction. Clearly. There is first place at stake. Germany put its typical team together for the third match. If Antoine Griezmann does not play, it is because Didier Deschamps has drawn the conclusions from the first two matches. he confided in the show Greg’s team.

“However, I’m not shooting him. Every time he was good in the French team recently, it was when he played much lower down, he continued.
There, he played it very high and you could see that he couldn’t find his place. I don’t understand why he doesn’t put him back in a three-way environment. At the World Cup, it worked really well and afterwards too. There, he wants Marcus Thuram, he wants Kylian Mbappé in the axis and it’s a system that he put in place at the last minute and we have the impression that everything is turned upside down and it’s is Griezmann toasting. »
