Unusual – The Blues invite Stade Toulouse to play a “super final”, Peato Mauvaka responds

Last week, the Auckland Blues, winners of the last Super Rugby, posted a message on their social networks with a photo of their celebration coupled with an image of the Toulousains with the Champions Cup and a message “Now what if…” (understand “And if…”). Like an invitation to a “super final” between the champions of the Southern hemisphere and those of the North. After the title in Top 14, Peato Mauvaka responded to the New Zealanders.

After its recent Top 14 – Champions Cup double, Stade Toulouse found itself at the heart of a debate supposed to: Is this Toulouse generation the best in history? ? While it may be difficult to answer this question with certainty, another can be answered on the pitch: Does Toulouse currently have the best team in the world? Recently winners of the Super Rugby Pacific, by ending the Crusaders’ hegemony, the Auckland Blues want to know the answer to that. On its social networks, Vern Cotter’s team published a photo of their celebration, alongside that of Stade Toulouse in the Champions Cup. In the caption of this publication, it is written “Now what if…” (“Et si…”).

A sort of invitation to a super final between the two teams that dominate their hemisphere? Perhaps. The affair took on a little more importance on Sunday, when Toulouse hooker Peato Mauvaka shared in his Instagram “story” a photo of the two trophies won by his club this season, accompanied by the message “@bluesrugbyteam What else…” (What else…). So could history be on the way to a duel between the Blues and Toulouse? Nothing is less certain but the prospect is interesting.

For their part, the New Zealanders added another layer on Saturday, clearly inviting Toulouse (winner of the Top 14), the Toshiba Brave Lupus (winner of League One in Japan), the Northampton Saints (winner of the Premiership), and the Glasgow Warriors (winner of the URC) to a sort of tournament between champions. “Let us cook” (let’s do it), launched the franchise on its social networks, under a photo bringing together the five teams.

WhileA Club World Cup project was recently under consideration For 2028, have the Blues just launched a plausible project?
