How far away the start of the 2023 season seems, when Fernando Alonso chained podiums with a very efficient Aston Martin. A little over a year later, the Spaniard is going through a very difficult phase with his team.

For the third time in the last four races, the double world champion did not score a point. Worse still, he finished more than a lap behind the leaders (12th).

“It’s a difficult weekend. We didn’t have the pace since free practice.” concedes Fernando Alonso. “In the race, it was very difficult. We slipped a lot and damaged the tires more than our opponents. These are lessons that we must learn from this complicated weekend, and let’s try to be better in Austria.

“There have been ups and downs for everyone this year. A few weeks ago we were fighting for fifth place with Racing Bulls and now we are at the bottom of the table. It changes from one track to another, it’s very tight so every tenth of a second counts and we hope to come back stronger of course.”

Racing Bulls’ poor form allows Aston Martin to maintain its lead in the fight for 5th place in the constructors’ standings. With 58 points against 28, Lawrence Stroll’s team has a comfortable lead over Red Bull’s little sister.
