This summerit is not necessarily necessary to leave the other end of the world to be disoriented. Many people actually know very little about diversity of French landscapes and the multitude of little treasures to discover. Locally, certain places are well identified and used by residents. Some notable sectors also become Tourist attractions, not without the risk sometimes of seeing crowds parade there that are not always respectful. THE mass tourism linked to social networks maybe a real problem.
Several municipalities are starting to think about measures to remedy this. However, it remains largely possible to avoid groups and find little nuggets. It’s perfect for enjoying the calm and the surrounding nature. It is of course essential to have a impeccable attitude in reducing our footprint at the bare minimum. A summer in Drôme?
The Drôme is a department full ofe riches and of surprises. Between its Provençal part, dear to Jean Giono, and the reliefs of the Vercors, extend multiple landscapes still preservedpunctuated by villages with authentic character and sometimes, as if frozen in time. Land of nature and adventure, the Drôme is also populated by caves, castles and rich in a culinary heritage that will delight gourmets. In summer, it even offers multiple places to indulge in bathing and the practice of nautical sports.
THE many rivers which cross the Drôme are fantastic for discoveries by canoe or kayak, for those who want thrills. If it’s relaxation that tempts you, don’t panic, there are also splendid natural swimming pools. Some are more accessible than others. Obviously, tranquility and a feeling of exclusivity are often gained at the cost of a good walk. What better reward, however, than a basin of cool, turquoise water afterwards?
A place hidden from view
There Ouvèze river winds between the reliefs of the south of the department. This seemingly innocuous river conceals some real little treasures. To swim there, head towards Buis-les-Baronnies. Follow the D546 which goes north from the village to the Ubrieux gorges. This is already an opportunity for short stops to enjoy these magical landscapes, rich in beautiful biodiversity. The river offers small meanders in which it is possible to cool off in summer. Continuing the road, several paths offer possibilities to go down as close as possible to the watercourse. Park your vehicle carefully so as not to block access and always prefer the walking. A little effort is necessary before the comfort of swimming! Further on, on the same road, there is a place best known to locals, where the rocky bed of the river becomes a setting for waters ideal for swimming.

To discover one of the most pleasant areas of theOuvèzewe must reach the Dead Man’s Pass. It is possible to park near the small tunnel (while taking care not to obstruct the circulation of all vehicles). From there, you have to follow a small path, unmarked, which descends in the meander of the river. This is where the most daring will find magnificent refreshing waters which will do a lot of good in the heart of summer. Be careful, the rocks can be slippery and it is good to have good shoes to access the site, or even to swim too.
If you reach this place, it is the guarantee of a calm swimmingfar from the crowds and in a breathtaking setting. Surrounded by the song of cicadas and perhaps flown over by a few birds of prey that nest not far from there, you can enjoy a truly exotic site without having gone to the other side of the world. This is an opportunity to take advantage of simple pleasures, in the heart of nature. We hardly do better! So, for such places to persist, it is obviously important to have a cexemplary and respectful behavior.
