Proof of a real feat, it was on a final defense of a South African carried ball – a local specialty, which the Boks applied again on Saturday afternoon against Wales – that the Glasgow Scots won (16-21) in Pretoria against the Blue Bulls, in the final of the United Rugby Championship (formerly Celtic League).

They therefore won the Championship for the second time in their history, after 2015. At the time, the competition did not yet welcome the South African franchises, integrated into the URC since the 2017-2018 season. They succeed Munster, already winners in South Africa last year. It was in Cape Town, on the Stormers pitch.

A second title after 2015

However, it was the South Africans, imperial at home, who got off to the best start, leading 13-0 in the 26th minute. A score that they held until the 40 + 1st minute, moments when Sam Cummings gave Glasgow hope by scoring a try before returning to the locker room (13-7). Two new marks in the second half, by Scottish internationals George Turner and Huw Jones, allowed Glasgow to take the lead. Before a final thrill on a South African maul at the siren, which the Scots managed to bury.
