This Euro 2024, which brings together almost half of Europe in Germany (24 qualified countries out of the 55 UEFA member federations, which also include Andorra, the Faroe Islands, Liechtenstein and San Marino), attracts four groups of supporters: those from major football countries (Netherlands, Spain, England, France), those from communities strongly represented in Germany (Turkey, Romania, Italy, Croatia, Serbia), those from neighboring countries (Belgium, Poland, Bas, Austria, Czech Republic) and finally those from small Eastern European countries that are not often qualified (Albania, Georgia, Ukraine, Slovakia).

In Hamburg, the city which is hosting Euro 2024 matches, the fan zone is located in front of the stadium of FC Sankt-Pauli, an “alternative” club, the standard of football carrying the values of the protest left and which has just move up to the Bundesliga. On the eve of the opening match, club ultras unfurled two banners bearing the following messages: “Love your club, not your homeland” and “Those who start the race as patriots end as fascists”. The German police, less pessimistic, showed remarkable sobriety. Little visible presence, no separation between supporters before the stadium. As for the matches that we were able to see (Switzerland-Hungary, France-Austria, Switzerland-Scotland, England-Denmark), there was no animosity between the two camps.
