Paris 2024 Olympic Games: the rehearsal of the opening ceremony scheduled for this Monday is postponed

It will ultimately not take place this Monday, June 24. The rehearsal for the opening ceremony of the Paris 2024 Olympic Games has been postponed, as the prefecture of the Île-de-France region revealed to AFP this Friday. This decision was taken due to the high flow of the Seine.

A rehearsal was held successfully last Monday. But the one scheduled for June 24 is the third to be postponed, due to heavy rains. The OCOG expressed itself in a press release: “As part of carrying out navigation tests on the Seine, Paris 2024 is looking for the statistical conditions of flow and water height closest to the statistical conditions for the months of July/ August, in order to draw the most relevant lessons. The conditions were thus met during the test carried out last Monday, June 17. »

The test postponed “to a later date”

This Friday, the flow of the Seine was approximately five times higher than in the classic summer period. The prefecture and the Paris 2024 organization considered that this did not make it possible to “learn the most relevant lessons” during this rehearsal.

“For the test scheduled for June 24, the rainy episodes of recent days and the weather forecasts for the weekend are likely to bias its lessons,” added the COJO. Paris 2024, in conjunction with the prefecture, has therefore decided to postpone the test to a later date. At the same time, driver training continues with the start of several simulator navigation sessions in July. »
