Lorient wants to become as sober as a camel

Unanimously, the elected representatives of the municipal council of Lorient (Morbihan) voted, this Thursday, June 27, 2024, for a water conservation plan.

Thirteen action points define it. “The years 2022 and 2023 were marked by major summer and winter droughts,” recalled Bruno Paris, deputy delegate for the environment and ecological transition.

As part of his re-engagement for the 3e Once in the renewal of the Territory committed to the ecological climate air energy transition (TETE CAE) label in 2023, the City of Lorient wants to progress in the management of drinking water and aquatic environments.

No more drinking water in cemeteries, stadiums, etc.

Awareness-raising work will be started so that all residents and schools take up this issue. “Smart meters will be installed from 2025presented Bruno Paris. Large water-consuming sites will be equipped with sub-meters by 2026.”

To reduce consumption, drilling, rainwater collectors and treated wastewater will be used to water stadiums, cemeteries and green spaces by 2027. “We will no longer use drinking water. The objective is to reduce drinking water consumption by 30% in 2028 (excluding swimming pool)The objective is minus 25% for the Moustoir swimming pool in 2028. »

€20,000 savings per year

To achieve these objectives, the City wants to undertake rainwater recovery work in the municipal heritage by 2028. Cemeteries, schools, Nature en ville workshops, the central kitchen of Kerlétu, the greenhouses of Kerdroual, and urban cleanliness are concerned.

The program also provides for the recovery of drain water from the Moustoir swimming pool to recycle it. “Any public space development project will aim for a minimum of 10% dewaterproofing compared to the initial situation, still staring at Bruno Paris, 50% in schoolyards and 30% in cemeteries. »

All this work committed to this sobriety should allow a gain of €10,000 per year, just through gestures and awareness-raising actions.

With the work, the City estimates that the savings could be increased to €20,000 per year and a saving of resources.

A plan hailed by Lorient jointly

A plan welcomed by the Lorient opposition team jointly through the voice of Delphine Alexandre. “Your plan is robust, it’s quite rare for a city to take up the issue of water like this. It is also very coherent and you have worked on integrated water management, with a corrective policy through dewaterproofing in particular. »
