Bruno Genesio sets LOSC’s objectives for the 2024-25 season

After OL and Stade Rennais, it is with certain ambition that Bruno Genesio takes charge of the LOSC first team. The latter is hungry for European games.

Qualified for the Europa Conference League last season, a competition in which it achieved a historic epic, LOSC did better at the end of the 2023-24 financial year. Fourth in Ligue 1, the Lille team is entered in the third preliminary round of the Champions League and intends to brave the difficulties to reach the league phase. This is an assumed objective, mentioned at a press conference this Wednesday by Bruno Genesio. The technician wishes to continue the European rise of the Mastiffs: “The continuity is to be European every year. LOSC must be European every year. Then, the second objective is obviously to get through the 3rd preliminary round and the Champions League play-offs. It’s the highest level we can hope to play and that’s what we’re here for as competitors. We are here to play at the highest level. This will be an essential objective at the start of the season. In the medium term, we want to qualify for the European Cup again the following season”he said with conviction.

And to do this, Bruno Genesio was reassured by his management. Apart from the exit vouchers granted to Leny Yoro and Jonathan David, he hopes to be able to count on a high-performance backbone, one which shone throughout last year. If he would like to make some adjustments, with some additions of experience, he had no particular demands on the Lille leaders. At least that’s what the technician said: “Everything was very clear during our meetings with the president. Two players have exit vouchers (Leny Yoro and Jonathan David). For the rest, I have the guarantee of having a stable team structure that has performed well. This is the most important guarantee in my eyes. For the rest, we have already targeted player profiles who are supposed to strengthen us, but I am not a coach who comes and asks for financial guarantees. Already, the main thing for me is to be able to count on the backbone of last year’s team. Apart from the two exit vouchers, we know that there will be a certain stability. There are obviously positions in which we will need to strengthen. It’s targeted, we’re going to work on that. The teams are very efficient here, it will be collegial work”concludes Bruno Genesio, who will reunite with his group on June 28, the day of resumption.
