Not sure that Rafael Nadal will one day return to the Wimbledon grass in the shoes of a professional player. The 38-year-old Spaniard, twice titled in London (2008 and 2010), confirmed on his social networks his absence for the 2024 edition. The Majorcan chose to stay on clay in the wake of Roland-Garros in order to prepare as best as possible for its next major event, the Olympic Games (July 27 – August 4), which will take place on the courts of Porte d’Auteuil.

To return to Paris in the best conditions, Nadal added the Bastad tournament (July 15-21), an ATP 250, to his program. This will be his last warm-up before playing the Games in singles and doubles alongside Carlos Alcaraz.

“Since the end of Roland-Garros, I have been training on land. Yesterday (Wednesday), my participation in the Paris Games, my last Games, was announced. With this goal in mind, we believe the best thing for my body is to not change surfaces and stay on land. That’s why I’m going to miss Wimbledon this year. I am sad not to be able to enjoy this year the atmosphere of this incredible event which will always remain in my heart”writes the former world No. 1.
