This is the first time that has hosted such a competition: the world sports logging championship. Sthil Timbersports is held at the Zénith in Toulouse on November 8 and 9, 2024.

“Lumbing has always existed,” explains Alexandre Thorn, president of Sthil France which organizes the competition. It is an ancestral discipline that we wanted to transform into a sporting discipline forty years ago. »

Simple and spectacular

Popularized by the channel The Team (which will also broadcast these world championships), the discipline has more and more fans in France and around a hundred licensees. “It’s simple, spectacular and good-natured at the same time,” analyzes Alexandre Thorn. Every competition we organize, there are people in the stands. »

Different tests are organized : ax horizontally; vertical ax; saw goes everywhere, vertical ax goes everywhere… The team events will take place on Friday November 8, the solo ones on Saturday November 9.

What are France’s chances in this international competition? The discipline is traditionally dominated by countries in the southern hemisphere such as Australia and New Zealand or the nations of North America (United States and Canada).

However, the French athletes intend to give the best of themselves and have enlisted the help of a high-level coach. Nano Pourtier former world mogul champion, has accompanied numerous athletes in disciplines as varied as bobsleigh and ice hockey.

Physical preparation

He has been supporting the French sports logging team for a year and a half.

We formed the group based on the results of the last French championships, explains the coach. We worked a lot on physical preparation: everyone trained a little in their own corner, but we carried out a global thinking in terms of power and muscular speed.

Michel Valentin, physical trainer for the French under-20 rugby team, came to provide his expertise.

“We also did more regrouping with the whole team, so that they see each other outside of competitions,” explains Nano Pourtier. It’s a good group, with values. » The athletes from the French team met in Pamiers for a few days of training before the world championship.

“Our goal is to be in the top two in Europe,” confides Nano Pourtier. And the Holy Grail would be fifth place in the world. »

With a factor that could work in favor of the French: the public. “It’s extra motivation, that’s for sure!” Especially since with rugby, Toulouse is used to big trophies. »

Stade Toulousain is also a partner of the event. It is therefore not impossible that we might see rugby players in the bays of the zenith…

At the zenith of Toulouse. Prices: from 9 to 26 euros per evening; from 13 to 45 euros (for both competitions). More information on the event website.
